During the Chinese lesson for our playgroup class, we first sang the "Here Comes the Train" song. After observing how trains look and sound, we played a game in our outdoor playground. The students pretended to be trains and walked on train tracks, then carried coloured blocks, before sorting them in their corresponding "train carriages". Sorting is a beneficial cognitive development activity for kids because it first requires the child to identify objects and then classify those objects based on similarities and differences. A lot of wheels turning in the brain for something that seems so simple!
